I have decided to tackle less political subjects for the time being, and am reporting back on the french fries in Banff.
These are numbered but in no particular order.
Park is a wonderful place to eat fries in Banff, because you get automatic curly fries.
- They are golden, crispy, seasoned. I ordered a burger and these were on the side. It was a pleasant surprise.
- Smart people work at Park, especially behind the bar.
- The Monarch is my favourite drink on their menu.
- The Sawback is one of my favourite drinks ever.
Tommy’s has hockey arena fries.
- Battered, crispy, golden-brown, definitely from a bag, who cares.
- The fries are just about the only thing I really order from Tommy’s, except for the $13.95 steak sandwich.
- The vibe is good at Tommy’s. No fuss. It’s a bar. You can chill at Tommy’s, affording a wonderful atmosphere.
The Beaver Bar has wonderful fries. They don’t need ketchup.
- Everything you want in a fry and more, because it can be ordered on the side of my favourite burger in Banff.
- These fries might be number one, in another life, but they lose points because of the atmosphere. It is a hostel bar, at the end of the day, perfect for drinking but not for chilling.
- The Mexi-Fries are good, like a nacho-poutine. They are perfect for those looking for sustenance, or might make a good bottom layer of food to soak up booze before a night out.
Bluebird.
- I’d recommend getting the steak-frites, because they do a good fry.
- Bluebird is a good one in Banff to look at and be in. It is a beautiful Art Deco restaurant with a chalet feel, a stone fireplace in the centre, and tall wooden ceilings.
- Personally, I think the food should be better for the price point. It comes down the heart in the kitchen. But what do I know?
- Go to Bluebird when you want to eat french fries somewhere beautiful.
Rose and Crown has great fries, and some very solid mains.
- On Thursdays, you can get a burger with bacon, cheese, and a side of fries for $14 or something. I recommend this deal, and a Bud Light bottle.
- Rose and Crown is a wonderful fry-eating bar, but it is a bar at the end of the day. You never know what you will get there, especially in the day.
Sky Bistro has thick, fresh-cut fries made in house.
- You get to eat them on top of a mountain, which is wonderful and fun.
- They’re hot, crispy, salty, reminiscent of a fry-truck on a beach day.
- I recommend Sky Bistro for a weekday lunch, because it is chill and quiet. The service is patient and wonderful.
- Go to Sky when it won’t be a big deal, so you can simply enjoy the views, the beautiful restaurant, and the food.
I am working on a much more extensive piece about burgers, but that topic is controversial in a small-town. Stay tuned.
